Remembering Obsidian; Todd’s “coming out” on the pages of Manhunter. We all remember that Todd struggled with some issues in the past (fun fact: being in the closet made him evil), so when Andreyko decided to give Damon a superhero boyfriend, he thought about Todd.

In his own words: “I didn’t want to make a character gay unless it felt organic. So, the list was pretty short. Then I remembered when Obsidian was in the JLA years ago and Gerard Jones, the writer, danced around the issue. I went back and read all my Infinity, Inc.’s and although Todd dated women, it was always a mess.”

Hey, remember how it took Billy and Teddy SEVEN YEARS to share a first on-panel kiss???

Seems that since Alan Scott has been rebooted into a young, gay man, Todd “Obsidian” Rice had been permamently erased from existence. At least we have plenty to remember him by.
